Signs Your Gutters Need Cleaning Soon
How can you tell if your gutters may need a clean soon?
- Can you see leaves and debris in your roof valleys or overhanging the gutter? If so your gutters will need an upcoming clean. You may not have leaks now, but you will soon.
- Is your property surrounded by trees? Even if you can't see debris, your gutters will need cleaning if you have many trees around your home.
- Do your gutters drip even the next day after a rain? If so, it may mean water is sitting in your gutters and not flowing correctly, meaning a clean is required.
Signs Your Gutters Need Cleaning Urgently
Preventative maintenance is the best when it comes to gutter cleaning so don't wait till you see these issues that prove a gutter clean is needed urgently.
- Water overflowing during rain. If water is coming over your gutters during rain, it is an obvious sign the gutter is blocked. If not fixed this can lead to serious damage in the future.
- Plants or weeds visibly growing in the gutter. If you can see plant growth in your gutters they need to be cleaned right away. Plant growth means the gutters are packed densely, meaning its very unlikely water will flow through. Also If left unattended the plants roots will likely grow into your eaves and building, creating large problems with your property.
- Water stains on walls or fascia. This means water has been flowing down your walls for a considerable amount of time, instead of flowing down the downpipes. This will lead to mould and also means your gutters are not working properly.
- Sagging Gutters. If you notice your gutters are starting to sag, there's a good chance it is because the are loaded down with debris and pooling water.
- Internal water damage. If during a storm you notice water dripping inside, it is highly likely your gutters are blocked. This requires urgent attention as the damage water causes once inside your building is very expensive.
- Mould on internal walls. Sometimes mould on internal walls is caused by water from blocked gutters flowing down inside or outside your walls, leading to a damp environment ready for mould to grow.
